## 2\. RISK EVALUATION
Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could cause buffer overflow
conditions that may allow information disclosure, remote code execution, or
crash the application.

According to Delta Electronics, the following versions are affected:
* CNCSoft ScreenEditor Versions 1.00.89 and prior

Multiple heap-based buffer overflow vulnerabilities may be exploited by
processing specially crafted project files, allowing an attacker to remotely
execute arbitrary code. There is a lack of user input validation before
copying data from project files onto the heap.

has been assigned to this vulnerability. A CVSS v3 base score of 7.8 has been
calculated; the CVSS vector string is

due to lacking user input validation for processing project files.

Natnael Samson (@NattiSamson) working with Trend Micro Zero Day Initiative
(ZDI) reported these vulnerabilities to NCCIC.
## 4\. MITIGATIONS
Delta Electronics recommends the following:
* Update to the [latest version of ScreenEditor, Version 1.00.94](http://www.deltaww.com/services/DownloadCenter2.aspx?secID=8&pid=2&tid=0&CID=06&itemID=060202&typeID=1&downloadID=&title=&dataType=8;&check=1&hl=en-US).
* Delta Electronics also recommends users restrict the interaction of the application to trusted files.
NCCIC recommends users take defensive measures to minimize the risk of
exploitation of this vulnerability. Specifically, users should:
* Minimize network exposure for all control system devices and/or systems, and ensure that they are [not accessible from the Internet](https://ics-cert.us-cert.gov/alerts/ICS-ALERT-10-301-01).
* Locate control system networks and remote devices behind firewalls, and isolate them from the business network.
* When remote access is required, use secure methods, such as Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), recognizing that VPNs may have vulnerabilities and should be updated to the most current version available. Also recognize that VPN is only as secure as the connected devices.

assessment prior to deploying defensive measures.
